You probably know how you can reduce your risk of cancer and other illnesses by choosing safe proven supplements, eating healthy, and exercising. But did you know that you can reduce your risk of cancer and many other illnesses simply by choosing health-boosting herbs in your cooking? It is true.
Health Magazine recently reported that eating the following herbs can improve your health:
Rosemary: Its antioxidants help combat potential carcinogens created when meats are broiled or grilled at high temperature. (Perfect for those of us who like our meat more well done.)
Lavender: Inhaling this flower's aroma can help reduce feelings of depression and stress and you may feel drowsy. (So that is why I enjoy it in my bath scents)
Thyme: Ease a cough with thyme. Just soak the herb in hot water for a few minutes, remove the thyme, and sip. (Sounds better than the menthol drops)
Basil: Add chopped basil to your vinaigrette - it'll make your greens safer to eat. Why? Because the oil from the basil leaves kills bacteria that can cause stomach bugs. (What a tasty twist to the vinaigrette too).
Sage: Forget the air fresheners. Instead, place orange peel mixed with sage in a small bowel for a nontoxic odor remover. (Finally, a safe air freshener and sweet smelling too)
So next time you think sage, thyme, and basil are just for your Holiday dinner, think again. It could be doing you more good than you thought.
